[Museum & History] Cham Museum – Da Nang

IMG_6020

As some of you might know our tour in Vietnam brought us to Da Nang, a city that seems to be aspiring to become like Tokyo or Seoul. A city with a very modern feeling but that still contains a lot of history in it’s museum, the Cham Museum.

“Cham?” will you ask “What’s that?” It is no type of dancing guys, no, it is know as Art of Champa (wikipedia it, they’ll probably explain better than I will) and is the remain of an Indic civilization from central and southern Vietnam. It usually consists in Sandstone sculpture and expresses religious scenes of Hinduism, Buddhism and others.

That “lion” did make us laugh, he’s got a “super happy” something… Hard to explain!

It’s been mainly destroyed due to neglect, vandalism and war but most of the sculputures left have been stored in this museum in Da Nang. If you enjoy history then this place is for you, if you enjoy ancient art then you too will enjoy this place. If you enjoy the 2 then… what the hell are you waiting for?

Just to help you see what I mean I will leave you with those pictures of the museum and hope you will have a look when you are in Vietnam.

Hope you liked the pictures. It’s hard to say more about this place since there is too much but hopefully the pictures give you a taste of it!
